Norwegian marzipan pig, a Christmas classic.
The Marzipan Pig is popular in Scandinavia and in Norway it is given as a prize to whoever finds the almond in the porridge. Confused? Let us help… A few hundred years ago, putting an almond in the Christmas Porridge was meant to give hope to unmarried women of finding a husband. If you found the almond in your bowl of porridge, you would get married in the coming year. On the other hand, if you found a bitter almond you could give up hope of a suitor at the door. Today the marzipan pig is given as a prize to whoever finds the almond as most people have fancy apps to help them find a suitor and don’t need almonds to tell them whether it’s their turn to meet the right one.
